Conor McGregor promises 'fireworks' as Dana White announces huge change to UFC 300

UFC 300 will take place in Las Vegas on Saturday.

Conor McGregor has promised MMA fans “fireworks” after Dana White announced a major change to UFC 300 days before the event.

The landmark show takes place on Saturday at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas with a stacked card.

A UFC Light Heavyweight Championship bout between current champion Alex Pereira and former belt-holder Jamahal Hill will headline the event, with the likes of Zhang Weili, Justin Gaethje, Max Holloway and Charles Oliveira also featuring on the card.

There had been speculation over whether former two-weight champion McGregor would make his long-awaited return at the event.

But it has come too soon for the Irishman, who is now rumoured to be fighting Michael Chandler at UFC 303 on June 29.

Ahead of UFC 300, White announced a major change to how bonuses will be paid after the event.

The UFC usually pay post-fight bonuses of $50,000 for the fight of the night as well as two performance of the night awards.

However, White confirmed at a press conference on Thursday that these bonuses would be increased to $300,000 for the 300th pay-per-view event in the promotion’s history.

Road House star McGregor was quick to praise the decision on social media.

He wrote on X: “Huge shout out @danawhite and the @ufc upping the bonuses to $300k!

“Life changing money for many on the card. To look after your fighters is paramount! God speed Dana and team at @ufc, onwards and upwards!”

McGregor later added: “What a time to be alive! Have a great showing ladies and gents. I guarantee now we see ABSOLUTE FIREWORKS at @ufc 300! Can’t wait!”

White is yet to confirm when McGregor will make his long-awaited return to the octagon, having not fought since breaking his leg against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264.

When asked about the Irishman’s return, White cryptically replied: “Don’t believe anything you read on the internet.”
