In-state linebacker Scott Taylor commits to UCLA

Scott Taylor is staying close to home.

The two-way standout from Los Angeles (Calif.) Loyola announced his commitment to UCLA on Saturday, giving the Bruins another dash of recruiting momentum under the new coaching staff led by DeShaun Foster.

WHAT SCOTT TAYLOR SAYS ABOUT UCLA

“There’s no place like home. Ever since I’ve been coming to campus and inside the facility, it’s where I’ve wanted to be. The staff shows love like no other. How they see me fitting into their defense is exactly what I want to be doing at the next level. It all just makes perfect sense.

“It’s a good sign to know I was one of the first offers they sent out as a new staff. They have made me feel like a priority and it’s been nothing but love from them. Obviously with the timing of the offer and the consistent love after the fact it all feels great.

“I love everything the new staff is doing. It’s been nothing but great things since they got in the building together. I can’t wait on the round level of that and it feels so good to be among the building blocks for that. They are heading in a great direction, so I’m excited for that.”

WHO ELSE WAS IN THE MIX?

Taylor had nine other scholarship offers at the time of his decision, including Arizona and a handful of Ivy League schools, and all three predictions in the 247Sports Crystal Ball favored the Bruins when he announced. He has scheduled his official visit to Westwood for the May 3 weekend.

WHERE SCOTT TAYLOR RANKS AS A RECRUIT

Taylor, a three-star prospect, is the No. 94 rated edge rusher in the country and No. 131 overall player in the state of California for the 2025 class, per the 247Sports rankings.

HOW SCOTT TAYLOR FITS WITH UCLA

“We’ve talked about my position flexibility and versatility, how I can fit into different spots and contribute in different ways. They run a 4-2-5 and they see me as a linebacker with the ability to pass rush. They think I can seesaw between those two roles and being able to do a little bit of everything for them.”

WHAT WE THINK ABOUT SCOTT TAYLOR

The Bruins are adding a multi-faceted prospect to their defense, according to 247Sports national recruiting analyst Greg Biggins.

“Taylor is one of the more versatile players in the region and could end on either side of the ball in college,” Biggins wrote on Taylor’s scouting report. “Most schools like him on defense side and he’s capable of playing any of the linebacker positions or growing in to an edge rusher. He has a great frame and is all of 6-4, 240 pounds with room to add more good weight. He’s a plus athlete who shows both initial quickness and the speed to get the edge.”
