Four-star safety Kendall Daniels Jr. has final four, sets decision date

Four-star safety Kendall Daniels Jr. made visits, spoke with coaches and is now ready to make his college choice.

The Norfolk (Va.) Maury standout has Duke, Virginia Tech, Penn State and South Carolina as his finalists, and he will announce his choice Sunday at 3 p.m.

“It’s time,” said Daniels, who is the No. 26 safety in the class.

The 6-foot-3, 187-pound Daniels broke down his thoughts on each of his finalists:

Duke: “Coach (Manny) Diaz was at Penn State, and I know how his defense is run. Coach Lester, he’s been my dog since he arrived at Duke. He’s been keeping it 100 with me. The plays they make at Duke are the plays I make in high school so it’s wouldn’t be a hard transition from Maury to Duke. They use their safeties like we use our safeties at Maury.”

Penn State: “They always had a great safety room. (Safeties) coach (Anthony) Poindexter, that’s my guy. He produces safeties. Overall, it’s a winning culture up there. No losing record. I like how coach (James) Franklin runs stuff up there.”

South Carolina: “(Defensive backs) coach (Torrian) Gray, coach (Shane) Beamer, the whole coaching staff, they’re my dogs. Coach Gray had two freshman all-Americans the last two years. I know I can be developed there.”

Virginia Tech: “(Safeties) coach (Pierson) Prioleau, he went to the NFL and he produces a lot of good safeties like Chamarri Conner. He’s with the (Kansas City) Chiefs now. Coach (Brent) Pry, I like how he is building something down there in Blacksburg. He is changing the culture around. Overall, I like the school and how they treat me.”
