WWE Raw results, recap, grades: Chad Gable snaps after losing intercontinental title match to Sami Zayn

After Chad Gable trained up Sami Zayn to take down Gunther for the intercontinental championship at WrestleMania 40, Gable had one request: a shot at Zayn’s new title. Gable got his shot in the main event of Monday’s episode of Raw but came up short.

The frustration of yet again failing to win the intercontinental championship was too much for Gable and he snapped, attacking Zayn after the match. It was a dramatic conclusion to a fantastic match and likely sets up a rematch between the two at the Backlash premier live event in a matter of weeks.

CBS Sports was with you all night with recaps and highlights of all the action from Bell Centre in Montreal.

Chad Gable snaps after losing intercontinental title match to Sami Zayn

Intercontinental Championship – Sami Zayn (c) def. Chad Gable via pinfall with a Helluva Kick to retain the title. Zayn made his entrance through the front door of the arena and marched through the crowd before a tremendous match with Gable, who went after Zayn’s leg throughout the match, including twice locking in the ankle lock. Zayn was able to counter and eventually hit the exploder into the turnbuckle and hitting a Helluva Kick for the win. An emotional and frustrated Gable raised Zayn’s hand after the match.

As Zayn was hugging his wife at ringside, Gable returned and hit Zayn with a German suplex. Gable continued to attack Zayn throwing him around ringside before putting Zayn’s legs through the ropes in the corner and applying the ankle lock as the show went off the air.

It can’t be overstated how great the entrance was for Zayn. The camera had followed Jey Uso through the crowd (see below) where Uso ran into Zayn standing outside the arena entrance. The camera then followed Zayn back in through the fired-up hometown Montreal crowd. The match was also fantastic and Gable’s turn was done about as well as one could hope. Everything was clicking for WWE on a big angle once again. Grade: A
